B'nai Sholom SisterhoodB'nai Sholom Sisterhood is an organization of the women of the congregation who band together in friendship for programs to benefit the synagogue and the community. We engage in learning activities, social activities, and activities to promote individual growth, so that each member may find opportunities to fulfill her potential as a person and as a member of our Jewish community.
Sisterhood's activities also support B'nai Sholom. Sisterhood is the collective presence, voice, and strength of the women in our congregation. It is a place for women to initiate, develop, and work on projects of interest to them and to other women in our congregation and in our communities. We work on projects for the religious school, for the congregation, and for the achievement of tikkun olam.
Sisterhood binds together the Jewish women of the Tri-Cities, who are spread out over a 30+-mile radius, from Greeneville, Tennessee, to Abingdon, Virginia.
The B'nai
Sholom Sisterhood holds meetings every other month during the
year, and gets together for "mini-luncheons" on the
first Tuesday of every month. Those dates will be listed on our
events
schedule as soon as they are available.
When Sisterhood calls on you to host a Friday night Oneg, please check your calendar, and find dates that have a special meaning to you (birthdays, anniversaries, yarzheits, etc.) and sign up for any of those dates. When you are asked to contribute to the beautiful Rosh Hashanah Oneg, Yom Kippur Break-the-Fast, or a Saturday morning kiddush, please remember that these events exist only because the women of Sisterhood have supported them.
Anyone
in our Jewish community is welcome to join us. We look forward
to having you come and fully participate in all Sisterhood functions,
from regular meetings, to Sisterhood Sabbath, to our new mini-sisterhood
informal monthly luncheons, to weekly Friday night Onegs. Sisterhood's
presence is a quiet one, but one that is present in every aspect
of our congregation. We look forward to having you join us.
Sisterhood maintains a Gift Shop stocked with religious articles for everyday, holidays, and special occasions. Contact Sandra Fish for your Judaica needs.
Sisterhood also has cards to sell for holidays such as Rosh Hashanah, Chanukah, and Pesach. Contact Mickey Grossman about these cards.
