From the President of Sisterhood

I would like to share with you, with her permission, Harriet Heller's address on

our Sisterhood Sabbath.....I learned, and many of you will too. Our thanks go to

Rhona Hurwitz for organizing and leading our sisterhood Sabbath, and to Barbara

Turner for an exceptional D'var torah, and to all who participated so beautifully.

From Harriet:

"B'Nai Sholom Sisterhood was organized in l947 by Reba Franzblau, the wife of

Rabbi Franzblau, serving us at that time. Our first project was to redo the tiny

kitchen in the Shul on Park Street in Bristol, to enable us to have a Friday night

Kiddush and a place to use for the rare Bar Mitzvah...not an easy task.

After the move to Blountville the need for funds to furnish the Lounge and beautify

the Bema created our "Legendary luncheons, card parties and bake

sales". We were the worker bees of the congregation, and if you look around

you can see the results.

Our situation is unique geographically, but somehow we have survived. The

mini-meetings (luncheons) introduced by Mickey Grossman have been like a

transfusion and we have an enthusiastic and viable Sisterhood to carry on the

tradition of B'Nai Sholom. We thank all our of past presidents."

And I thank Harriet for teaching us our roots, and letting us know how much sisterhood

has done for the congregation. When calls come...and we are asked,

can sisterhood cover the expense of........, we do not say no. We need ALL of

you to come and join us in sisterhood. We will be restarting our Mini-luncheons...

where we can meet and share our lives....and our meeting. Harriet

has graciously allowed us to use her beautiful home for our opening meeting....

dates and times will be sent out....but please, put sisterhood on your calendar.
